Weddings at Williamstown Botanic Gardens

Weddings at Williamstown Botanic Gardens can be organised through the Hobson Bay Council.  You do require a council permit to hold a wedding ceremony in these gardens.  Williamstown Botanical Gardens are based in the western suburbs of Melbourne  on the corner of Osborne Street and Giffard Street Williamstown.

Their is a designated entrance with parking for wedding vehicles on Osborne Street which is fantastic for limousines and large style wedding vehicles.  This allows for wedding parties to be dropped off safely and without obstructing the passing traffic.  This entrance is also the easiest of entrances for wedding suppliers, guests and wedding parties to enter from as it is the closest one for easy access to all the available lawns for weddings.

There are 4 Lawns that are available for booking a wedding ceremony

  • Golden Elm Lawn
  • Sunset Lawn
  • Plumago Lawn
  • Liquid Amber Lawn

You can download a copy of the council permit here which you can complete and then return back to the council for approval and payment

The council do have a list of terms and conditions, which one of the main conditions is that they do have a maximum amount of chairs being 20.  This may not seem much but this will cover those that need to take a seat which will be parents, grandparents and immediate family as needed.

Public Liability Insurance is included in the booking fee so you will not need to obtain this insurance for you wedding ceremony.  However had you needed public liability insurance we here at Wedding Hire Melbourne have our own public liability insurance that can be provided for wedding ceremony setups should this be needed.  This has been sufficient for other councils and venues around Melbourne when required.

It is highly recommended that when applying for a council permit for a wedding ceremony setup around Melbourne to apply early.  The reason being that Melbourne Gardens are very popular during wedding season and can be booked quickly especially for popular dates each year.

The Williamstown Botanical Gardens were opened in 1860 and were one of the first public gardens in Victoria.  They are also situated across the road from the beach in Williamstown.  The gardens are full of palm trees  tall trees and luscious lawns with fine gravel pathways creating the perfect garden wedding setup.
